The Shirley Coleman – Creighton Court Scholarship Fund
Shirley Coleman was a long time resident of Creighton Court. She raised 6 children on Nine Mile Road. They resided on Nine Mile for more than 25 years.
Shirley Coleman worked as a seamstress, a child care provider and she also walked through Creighton Court selling Avon door to door. She was determined
that all six of her children would graduate from high school and attend college. Her children:
Garland, Yolanda, Florence, Odessa, Lucetta and Loretta did finish high school and four have college degrees. In 1996,
Shirley Coleman died from complication related to pneumonia. Even though she’s
gone, the Shirley Coleman – Creighton Court
Scholarship Fund is a way to honor her commitment to education and it is also my way of giving back to my community.

There will only be one or two recipients of the 1st annual Shirley
Coleman Creighton Court Scholarship Fund. The selection
will be made in April of 2009 and the banquet will be held in the Creighton
Court Center located 2101 Creighton
Road on May 2, 2009 at 5:00 PM.
